First, an announcement: There will be a forum on Photography As An Art Commodity with Australian photographer and visual artist Henry Bateman on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 3:00 p.m. at the Sining Kamalig Art Gallery located on the 4rth floor of Gateway, Araneta Center, in Cubao. Come, listen, ask questions, and discuss. Also see the artist’s exhibit of his digitally-abstracted photographs produced through the artistic manipulation of the photos’ pixels.

Raffy Paredes
Alejandro P. Vistan, librarian at the University of Regina Carmeli in Malolos, Bulacan writes that he has been into photography since 1998. “My favorite subjects are those people around me and also the different events,” he says. Allan admits that he still lacks formal training in photography and plans on attending a workshop when his time allows it. He submitted photos of Marie Ysabelle, his “little angel,” and the Via Crucis sa Ilog, an environmental effort to save the Calumpit river.
B.S. Psychology student Marylieh O. Ravanera writes that she loves photography because it allows her to express herself and share a part of her life. “I also love photography because there is a reality and story behind every picture we take,” she says.
From Naga, Digital Illustration and Animation student Michael Calimbas Jr. shares that he is into lomography. “This is my way of reaching out to other people the realities that I see in our society in my everyday life. It’s my way of telling stories,” he says. Michael sent in his photo titled “Minsan Lang Sila Bata” taken with a Lomo LC-A film camera.
Olga Villanueva, a Baguio City resident and photography newbie writes: “I am a Political Science graduate but my true passion is in traveling and taking photos.” Olga shares her photos of smiling kids whom she found to be “easy and endearing subjects.” More of her photos are available at http://www.flickr.com/photos/sofia051085/ and http://sofia22olga.multiply.com/.

Also on this page are photographs from our regular readers. Heinz Reimann Orais shares a photo which he says employs old school effects to minimize the use of Photoshop. To come up with the floating petals, Heinz stitched the rose petals to a string connected to the model’s hand and the wall.
Solomon Lim (http://splgum.deviantart.com) sent in his animal pictures for the “season of love.” Katrina Hsi took photos of the Callao caves in Cagayan province. Dr. Ronald Ruel M. Joves, a Veterinarian and a photo enthusiast from Urdaneta City, Pangasinan sent animal images. And Ouie Sanchez (ouiepotograpiya.multiply.com) covered the Nazareno procession in Quiapo.
